SCHOLARSHIPS
The Society of Surgeons of Trinidad & Tobago recognizes the need for local surgical trainees to receive exposure to surgical technology not available locally. Obtaining this overseas training and exposure can be a financial burden. It is hoped that the scholarship will assist local trainees by facilitating some financial assistance towards obtaining this exposure with the aim of improving the quality of surgical services in Trinidad& Tobago.
INTENDED USE
The SOSTT Scholarship shall be used for the applicant to attend an event outside the Caribbean Region.
The event could include:
a. An International Surgical Meeting, but only if the applicant is presenting a paper or poster of local or regional interest.
b. An approved surgical training course that is not available locally. The applicant will be required to provide details of this course including a description of how this training would benefit the local population.
c. The Scholarship can be used to attend an International meeting or conference where the applicant does not have a suitable paper or poster to present, but it would be preferred.

The Applicant must fulfill all of the following criteria:
1. The Applicant must be a Resident Ordinary Member OR a Resident Associate Member of SOSTT.
2. The Applicant must provide adequate evidence of enrollment in an accepted postgraduate surgical training programme.
3. The Applicant must provide evidence of being a Citizen of Trinidad & Tobago.
4. Citizens of other CARICOM Countries will be considered, but only if there is no suitable applicant from a citizen of Trinidad & Tobago. This is at the sole discretion of the SOSTT Executive.
5. The Applicant must complete the approved application from the SOSTT and provide all of the details requested.
6. The applicant should disclose any other funding in a grant application.
7. Grants are given on merit and need.
8. Deadline to be 4 weeks before the course/ event.
9. The executive to meet if 3 or more applications are pending.
